A Moroccan and a Spaniard win the International Science Mini-Marathon

Athletes Vanessa Veiga and Mohammed Blal were the winners of the 31st International Science Mini-Marathon, organised by the CSIC and sponsored, among other institutions, by the Fundación General CSIC. 7,200 competitors took part in the contest, which was held on Sunday 16 October in Madrid, along an officially approved 10 kilometre course starting and ending at the central campus of the Spanish National Research Council (CSIC).

XXXI Carrera Internacional de la CienciaMohammed Blal revealed his intention to break away from the group in a quest for victory early on in the race, and he completed the course in 29:06. He shared the podium with Charles Charito Ngolepus, from Kenya, in second place, and Anouar Dabad, also from Morocco, in third.

In the women’s category, Vanessa Veiga, from Pontevedra, Galicia, won brilliantly, with a time of 34:33. She was followed by the veteran Aragonese marathon runner, María José Pueyo, and Saida el Mehdi, from Morocco.
